Community Garden

The Ridge Community Garden began in 2004 under a collaborative grant with the Master Gardeners under the premise of ending childhood obesity through healthy eating.  Twelve beds were built in total.  In 2009, the beds were revitalized and an MOU was signed with the OSU Extension Office providing Nutrition Classes to the Afterschool Program youth.  Since that time, the Master Gardener’s have been available at the Taft High School, working with the youth, providing valuable gardening techniques and healthy eating as well as harvested produce for the families of the participating youth.  In 2015, a greenhouse was incorporated into the Ridge Community Garden, Seeds to Supper Classes added providing valuable container growing techniques and beds were shared with the Ridge Community bringing healthy foods to the tables of many.  The Oceanna Literacy Center, Oregon Food Bank, and OSU Extension Office, and Master Gardeners were all partners with Northwest Coastal Housing/Spyglass Ridge LP in this great endeavor.
